Imec also has the means to test Smart Stadium/Arena applications and services in real-life environments – ranging from multimedia applications and wireless network performance to smart ventilation systems, etc.

In the recent past, for instance, imec and Holst Centre collaborated with the Amsterdam Innovation Arena – a living lab to test Smart Stadium applications and services. Concretely, imec tested its air quality monitoring platform during a concert of Rihanna in the Amsterdam Arena. A network of multi-sensor nodes measured the air quality at several locations, very locally, to gain insights in issues that could then be tackled by the Arena’s smart ventilation system.

Another example includes smart wristband tests during a Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike concert in the Sportpaleis Arena in Antwerp; wristbands developed in the imec.icon iFEST project and using sensors, wireless communication and a dedicated app to enrich the audience’s concert experience.

And finally, also with the Ghelamco arena in Ghent, a collaboration was set up, a.o. to test new security services.
