OnePlanet Research Center 
Innovation center for chip and digital technology in food and health

OnePlanet Research Center is a multidisciplinary collaboration agreement between Wageningen University & Research (WUR), Radboud University, Radboudumc and imec. We use the latest chip and digital technology to create a society in which everyone can live a healthy life and has access to good and sufficient food.

We initiate groundbreaking, fundamental and applied research, groundbreaking innovations and smart product development. This is only possible by using and bringing together great ideas, innovations and chip and digital technologies from different disciplines and work closely together with industry.   

We ensure that companies, education, researchers, social institutions and citizens work together. We combine specialisms from the fields of agriculture, food and health and turn dreams into feasible solutions that contribute to a more sustainable society.

What you will do

We need you as a Biomedical Field Test Engineer to be part of our interdisciplinary team to investigate technologies which can be used for creating innovative health solutions. In this team, you will work next to biomedical researchers and engineers, biochemical engineers and data scientists. By joining us you will be involved in activities related to research and development for a range of health-nutrition monitors, wearables / ingestibles / smart bathroom applications / or other technologies looking into a range of biomarkers (for instance ECG, PPG, Accelerometery, Bio-Impedance) and behaviours. Other tasks include:

  • Functional testing of sensors prototypes in the laboratory.
  • Test of hardware, software and firmware and setting-up tests for prototypes.
  • Test these prototypes on test persons in a free-living situation, patients at Medical Centers.
  • Extract, check, clean and prepare the data for further analyses.
  • Support senior researchers in their data analysis.
  • Set up and conduct (clinical) studies for verification and validation of the wearables/sensors/ signals.
  • Develop and implement processes/protocols according to GDPR.
  • Work together in a multi-disciplinary team to ensure quality and effective implementation of the prototypes and sensors.

Who you are

We are looking for a highly motivated person with the following assets: 

  • You hold a BSc or MSc degree in Biomedical Engineering.
  • You are a Bachelor with 2+ years of experience in the Biomedical field or a Master with a relevant graduation thesis in this domain.
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) course is already in your resume or you are open to do it.
  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch and English are a must.
  • You have a driving license to be able to commute from the lab to the field (at people’s homes / Medical centers) where you will test our prototypes on volunteers.
  • Knowledge of human physiological measurements, medical signal processing is highly appreciated.
  • Experience in data collection on human subjects and data analysis is a plus.
  • You are a quick learner and interested in acquiring new competences.
  • People-oriented, good interaction and organizational skills, eager and open attitude are attributes which define yourself.
  • Hands-on and proven can-do attitude; which means taking initiatives, having a flexible approach and solving problems on a daily base.
  • You are comfortable working and interacting with people as you need to test these prototypes on them.
  • You are interested in a broad range of health-related topics such as nutrition, behavior, biology…
