What you will do

As advanced CMOS technology scaling becomes today increasingly challenging, many complex technology options are considered. The benefits and challenges of the different device architectures (FinFETs, NanoSheets, CFETs,...) and various technology boosters (low-k spacers, buried power rails,...) need to be evaluated for the definition of the future nodes. In this context, optimum values for the critical circuit-level figures-of-merit, which are Power consumption, Performance (speed), and die Area (PPA), can only be determined by co-optimizing the advanced technologies features with the design of standard cells (DTCO).  Indeed, as the dimension of the core transistors reduces in the nanometer range, the impact of the device parasitics (access resistance, fringing capacitance, etc.) gets increasingly important.
In this job, you will develop methods to quantify device parasitics of the future CMOS generations. Therefore, advanced TCAD tools will be used, and compact models as well as parasitic extraction methods derived.  You will enable the design of circuits in future technologies by setting up process design kits (PDK). You will interact closely with circuit designers, modelling engineers, device and process integration engineers.

Who you are

  • You have obtained a PhD in electrical engineering 
  • We appreciate your good knowledge of device physics, technology, and basic circuit design
  • We value your experience in TCAD, compact modeling, parasitic extraction, PDK
  • You are a communicative team player, but still you can work independently.
  • You are creative and like taking initiative; you are persuasive and assertive, while keeping a constructive attitude.
  • You show the flexibility to change between different projects according to changing priorities.
  • Given the international character of imec, a fluent knowledge of English is necessary.
