Participate in the development of a framework for parasitic extraction for future technologies: using python for building a structure and porting it to different parasitic extraction (PEX) software packages.
Continuous scaling of logic technologies relies on the evaluation of novel technologies as possible candidates for next-generation logic circuits. An important part of this evaluation is the parasitic extraction (PEX), as the parasitics have a significant effect on the circuit behavior. Different tools exist for carrying out the PEX, all using their own, often complex, input files. To simplify the process for this evaluation, imec is working on a novel way of working (WoW) using a python environment to build a 3D structure for novel technologies, and port this structure to different PEX tools.
This research internship takes part in developing this python environment. Depending on the timing of the internship, and the state of the python environment at that moment, the focus of the internship may be on providing the python-based link between the developed python environment generating the 3D structure, and one (or more) specific third-party tool(s) for PEX. After the link to different PEX tools is implemented inside the python environment, the PEX results of the different tools could be compared by running simulations on existing cells, with the PEX of the corresponding tools.
At imec, you will work within a diverse environment together with scientists from all around the globe. The team will welcome you and support you throughout the internship.
