Postdoctoral Researcher in Advanced photoemission (PEEM/ARPES/Time-resolved) for semiconductor materials characterisation
What you will do
Imec recently developed a unique photoemission analysis platform based on a High-Harmonic generated coherent source, providing ultrafast, 160 attosecond to 200 picosecond, controlled delays for time-resolved (tr) pump-probe electron and IR spectroscopy. These sources provide high brightness coherent attosecond photon pulse trains of pre-selectable energies ranging from 26-124 eV. They will feed end-stations supporting continuous and time resolved photoemission, tr infra-red (IR), Coherence Diffractive Imaging (CDI), and Interference Lithography.
You will be responsible for the development of the scientific application of the photoemission end-station of the platform, which is based on a SPECSTM KREIOS analyser, allowing Photo Electron Emission Microscopy (PEEM) and micro Angular Resolved Photo Emission Spectroscopy (-ARPES) operated in continuous or tr pump-probe modes. Standard UPS and XPS will also be present. A preparation chamber containing both Auger Electron Spectroscopy, and Low Energy Electron Diffraction is connected to the system.
You work will cover imec-wide R&D topics and will start with two focus. The first one involves the investigation of the fundamentals of photoresist chemistry at EUV energies and will include the monitoring of the signatures of the photoresists from only hundreds of attoseconds after the interaction with an EUV pulse in order to reveal the reaction steps and build a unique signature of the material degradation process. The second one will cover precise band structure determination of 2D-materials and topological insulators. Other topics of common interest may also be developed in function of the background of the selected candidates.

Who you are
- You have obtained a PhD degree in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or related fields
- You have a very strong background in photoemission.
- Practical knowledge in time-resolved and/or angle-resolved photoemission and/or PEEM is a significant differentiator
- Knowledge material development for semiconductor processing is an asset.
- You are a communicative team player, but still you can work independently.
- You like taking initiative; you are persuasive and assertive, while keeping a constructive attitude.
- You show the flexibility to change between different projects according to changing priorities.
- Given the international character of imec, a fluent knowledge of English is necessary.
This postdoctoral position is funded by imec through KU Leuven. Because of the specific financing statute which targets international mobility for postdocs, only candidates who did not stay or work/study in Belgium for more than 24 months in the past 3 years can be considered for the position (short stays such as holiday, participation in conferences, etc. are not taken into account).
