imec-Vision Lab ( http://visielab.uantwerpen.be/ ) is a research group of the physics department at the University of Antwerp. The Vision Lab has unique expertise in the quantitative biomedical imaging (magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography), remote sensing, and shape modelling. The working environment is strongly interdisciplinary, combining techniques and insights from Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. The group has a broad range of national and international collaborations with both academic and industrial partners.
The involved industrial and academic partners together with imec-Vision Lab aim to create a 4D patient-specific modelling platform for evaluation and customization of medical devices in the cardiac and orthopaedic field. Within this project, Vision Lab focusses on the development of techniques for building 4D statistical shape and motion models from dynamic 3D image (CT/US) and surface data for a patient population and the use of these models for deriving accurate patient-specific models from medical scans. Creating the envisioned technology platform will steer the future of health services towards a more reliable patient care.

- You are responsible for extending the state-of-the-art 3D shape modelling techniques of the Vision Lab to 4D for shape and motion modelling and the application of such techniques for patient-specific modelling based on 3D and 4D patient data.
- To this end, you devise, implement, apply, and evaluate new techniques in C/C++ and Python or Matlab.
- You present your work at regular project meetings and publish and present research results in international peer reviewed journals and conferences.
- You are open to intensive collaboration with the industry partners
- You will compete to obtain externally funded research grants.
- You hold (or get during the application period) a doctorate degree (PhD) in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
- The successful candidate has expertise in image/geometry processing for solving practical problems as demonstrated by her/his track record with publications in high-impact journals.
- Additional expertise in one or more of the following fields is highly appreciated:
- Statistical shape modelling; physics-based modelling; computer aided design;
- Familiarity with patient-specific modelling research and VTK/ITK software are considered a plus.
- You have proven programming skills in C++ and Python or Matlab.
- Excellent English communication, technical writing, and presentation skills are also required.
- As a team player, you are comfortable operating in a multidisciplinary environment with academic and industrial researchers.
- A full-time position for one year. The initial appointment can be extended with a second year upon positive evaluation;
