What you will do

Imec’s PV research teams are internationally recognized, thanks to its experts and world-class technology labs. Based on the expertise in chalcogenide materials for PV applications, a new research topic has started last year. Many of these chalcogenide materials are also interesting for application in electrochemical devices. The electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide represents a promising route to convert CO2 into fuels and valuable carbon-based chemicals using electrical energy. This field of research is currently attracting a lot of interest. Chalcogenide materials are very promising for the conversion of CO2 by photo- and/or electrocatalysis as they can enable high activity and selectivity, but also and especially high-value products (i.e. methanol (MeOH) or dimethoxy ethane (DME)).
You will work in the Energy Laboratory of imec in Genk (EnergyVille) in the chalcogenide thin film-PV team of the imec department ‘imomec’ (associated imec laboratory at Hasselt University). State-of-the-art equipment for the processing of energy materials is present in these new laboratories. A good team spirit to achieve together the global goal of the ATFPV program is required and you aim to achieve internationally recognized record results. 
Your primary responsibilities are:
  • Follow-up of funded research projects
  • Enlarge the expertise on materials towards the application of “Power-to-Molecules”
  • Build-up the scientific network and prospect actively new projects in this domain
  • Work according to agreed timelines and report on progress internally and to external customers
  • Manage time effectively and prioritize to achieve major milestones
  • Work efficiently in a multidisciplinary environment with scientists and lab assistants
  • Guiding PhD students in your research domain
  • Communicate and interact effectively with the other research teams within imec and UHasselt

Who you are

  • You have a PhD degree in Chemistry, Physics, Engineering Sciences or similar, with experience in chalcogenide thin film material development for energy applications.
  • You are a precise, methodical and detail-oriented person.
  • You have excellent reporting skills and are able to present scientific results (publications, conferences, seminars). 
  • You show leadership capabilities, a problem-solving attitude and a strong desire to stay up-to-date with recent advancements 
  • You can easily integrate in an international team. Very good English communication skills are required.
  • Ideally you have knowledge of the fields of electrochemistry and photovoltaics.
  • You are able to work independently and are eager to take initiative and responsibility.
