The Kloosterman Lab at NERF is currently recruiting research fellows (PhD/Postdoc)

The Kloosterman Lab studies the neural basis of information processing and storage in the mammalian brain. We use a combination of neurophysiology, cellular imaging, optogenetics and advanced (real-time) neural signal processing in awake, behaving rodents. Our research focuses on the cellular activity patterns during navigational task learning and sleep that underlie spatial memory processing. Current projects look at the dynamically coordinated hippocampal-cortical interactions that mediate offline rehearsals of past experiences. Our aim is to understand how offline rehearsals drive the acquisition, consolidation and execution of demanding behavioral tasks.

  • You have a degree in neuroscience, physics, engineering, computer science or mathematics
  • You are proficient in English and have good written and oral communication skills
  • You have strong quantitative and technical skills
  • You are fluent in at least one programming language (e.g. Python, C++)
  • Preferably, you have research experience in systems neuroscience, cellular neurophysiology or computational neuroscience
  • You are self-motivated, critical, and independent minded
  • You are a team player who likes challenges
  • You have a strong drive for scientific excellence and integrity
  • You are comfortable working with rodents

We offer

  • An international and intellectually stimulating research and training environment
  • Access to state-of-the-art tools and facilities
  • The possibility to collaborate with research groups at NERF, imec, VIB or KU Leuven
  • A renewable contract, competitive salary and benefits (candidates are also expected to apply for their own external funding)
  • NERF is located in the university town of Leuven, with excellent transportation links to Brussels and international destinations

How to apply?

Interested candidates should submit their application containing the following documents to

  • A curriculum vitae
  • A copy of their university transcripts
  • Names and contact information of 3 referees
  • A cover letter that clear states your career goals, your research interests and their relation to the research goals of the Kloosterman laboratory, and why you are a good match for the profile.
