Are you a highly motivated researcher who is enrolled in a PhD program at a top university in a relevant subject like Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, or Statistics? Do you aim to work in a diverse research environment among some of the world's leading researchers? Are you an excellent communicator who thrives on a multi-disciplinary team? If so, keep reading.

Imec USA is looking for a PhD student intern for an exciting new research program on Low power distributed and collaborative artificial intelligence (AI) leveraging on-device learning at our Berkeley location in California, for Summer 2021.

What you will do

  • Develop novel multi-agent learning algorithms and mechanisms that help solve a global task by sub-dividing the task amongst agents and collaborate amongst each other to solve the task.
  • Develop training environments, tasks and domains in which collaboration and cooperation are crucial for success, learnable but non-trivial.

Key Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in PhD program in a top university in a relevant discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, or Statistics.
  • Experience with:
    *Developing novel multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithms for cooperative AI
    *Deep knowledge of Deep Reinforcement learning algorithms and literature
    *Good knowledge of game-theory and mechanism design.
    *Designing, implementing, and training DL/RL algorithms in state of the frameworks such as Pytorch and tensor-flow
  • Experience working in R&D environments with successful publications, patents or both is preferred
  • Can present your research effectively at conferences and in other technical forums.
  • Highly motivated to work in a research environment
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
