Scientific Director Technology Integration

What you will do

In this new leadership position your focus will be on bridging the OnePlanet Research application side with the imec core technologies (platforms). Effectively you will have an impact to improve existing and create new sensing concepts for the domains of precision agriculture and personalized health. You do this by collaborating with other imec R&D groups to unlock the fullest potential of technology and application use cases. This position allows you to give direction to state-of-the-art developments in a unique and dynamic environment with the common goal of sustainable innovation as driving factor. You will report to the Managing Director of OnePlanet Research Center. In this position you will:

• Investigate, together with Program Managers and scientific members, the possibilities for internal and cross-program technology transfer and build long-term collaborations with other R&D groups within imec.
• Develop a joined vision on technology developments that can be deployed for OnePlanet Research Center’s main application domains: Precision Agriculture & Food and Preventative Health, Nutrition & Behaviour, by intake of feedback from scientists, industry and understanding of future markets.
• Continuously benchmark the activities with respect to the international state of the art.
• Contribute to the alignment of scientific roadmaps and the integration of OnePlanet’s research track with imec’s technology platform.
• Give technical direction to Researchers and System Architects from both Leuven and OnePlanet’s offices, creating new sensing concepts by challenging unrealised technology and application potential.

Who you are

You have a broad view on sensing technologies and their respective use cases. At the same time, you are knowledgeable and experienced in semiconductor and/or MEMS like processing. You have a good technical understanding of innovations in this domain and you have relevant experience in technology roadmap creation. You are a solid planner, but you recognize that, R&D projects require flexibility in the execution of the plans. You are motivated by deep and frequent contacts with scientists, management and external customers. You can convincingly present the technology content internally and externally. To qualify for this challenging position, you:

• Have a PhD degree in nanoelectronics, applied physics or equivalent.
• The seniority of the position expects you to have at least +15 years of R&D experience in Academia and/or Industry.
• Have an established research track record of international recognized scientific achievements and an international scientific & technical network.
• Demonstrate solid understanding of the corresponding challenges and technologies that face this industry (must).
• Are passionate about sustainable innovations in de field of Precision Agriculture & Food and Precision Health, Nutrition and Behavior.
• Have excellent communication skills, that you will use to interface with internal and external customers.
• Have an excellent command of the English language.
• Enjoy working in multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural teams.
