What you will do

With Si CMOS technology scaling to sub-5 nm nodes, many challenges appear to maintain power and performance gains of digital circuits at small pitches. Innovative solutions are studied at various levels: not only the fabrication process of transistor is optimized using, e.g., advanced lithography and new channel materials, but also are introduced alternative transistor and standard cells architectures using technology boosters (Nano-Sheet FET, Complementary-FET, SuperVia, buried power rails...). The benefits of scaling in terms of increase in circuit Performance and reduction of Power consumption and die Area (PPA), requires to co-optimize advanced technologies features with the design of standard cells (Design-Technology Co-Optimization, DTCO).

In this job, you will benchmark various options for scaling CMOS and establish a roadmap for future technology developments. You will drive the DTCO assessment, based on your experience in modelling. Besides the physics-based modelling of future transistors, your study will include aspects from process integration, semiconductor physics, and circuit design. You will work in the device modelling team, and you will interact closely with experts in technology and circuit/system design.

Who you are

  • You have obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering.
  • We appreciate your good knowledge of device physics, technology, and basic circuit design.
  • We value your professional experience of at least 5 years in DTCO, TCAD, compact modeling, PDK.
  • You are a communicative team player, but still you can work independently.
  • You are creative and like taking initiative; you are persuasive and assertive, while keeping a constructive attitude.
  • You show the flexibility to shift between different projects according to changing priorities.
  • Given the international character of imec, a fluent knowledge of English is necessary.
