Silicon Photonics PDK Library Engineer

What you will do

Imec is a global pioneer in developing integrated silicon photonics technology through its Optical I/O R&D program targeting short-reach optical communications. This technology is successfully offered via wafer-level prototype fabrication services to customers in telecom, datacom, computing, bio-medical and sensing applications. The continuous growth of these activities requires the enhancement of our team to interact with customers and offer them the technology solutions they need for their applications.
As a Silicon Photonics PDK library engineer, your main responsibility is to interact with customers, understand their needs and propose the best solutions based upon the technology capabilities and available library components.

In this challenging role your responsibilities are:

  • You maintain the library database with the latest component performance data and the corresponding design parameters.
  • You are familiar with the process integration flows and their impact on component performance and you address questions from the customers based on this knowledge.
  • You are responsible for the test methodology to track and benchmark component performance across production runs. You intervene in case of unexpected deviations.
  • You are in close contact with the component designers to transfer application specifications and customer requests. You collect and provide customer feedback and comments.
  • You collaborate with the design, processing and PDK teams to define the strategic roadmap for future technology offerings.

Who you are

  • You have a Ph.D. and at least five years of experience on photonics component design and characterization or equivalent.
  • You have working experience with photonics component characterization and benchmarking.
  • You are familiar with integrated photonics processing flows.
  • You have strong and tested analytical skills.
  • You pay attention to details and strive for quality.
  • You have excellent communication skills in English for this customer facing position that allows you to flawlessly communicate in the multinational environment of imec.
