About imec-ETRO-VUB

ETRO, the department of Electronics and Informatics ( of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) performs fundamental and applied research in Micro- & Optoelectronics, multidimensional signal processing, and audiovisual computing. The main research areas relevant for this position are medical image analysis, image-guided therapy, machine learning, computer-aided diagnosis and clinical decision support.

ETRO closely collaborates with UZ Brussel, a top-rated university hospital that has gained recognition at national and international level. We are a core member of imec, the world-leading research and innovation hub in nano-electronics and digital technologies. Our team is currently a fruitful mixture of people from different nationalities. The main working language is English.

What you will do

You will start working as the main software developer on state of the art biomechanical modelling and analysis toolboxes and will gradually become responsible for the software architecture, design and the longer term development plans of the toolboxes.  As a software developer you will also work on problem fixing, debugging, writing unit tests, code reviews and the development and maintenance of documentation.

What we do for you

You will work within a small research team (currently 18), composed of professors, post-doc researchers, PhD students and research scientists at the department of electronics and informatics of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel and also associated to imec.

The accepted candidate should be available on the short term and will have an initial contract from January 2019 or earlier, until mid 2020.  Depending on the obtained results and the secured research funding, the contract might be extended after that period.

Who you are

We are looking for candidates with a relevant master’s degree with excellent programming skills including fluency in object oriented programming. The ideal candidate has several years of relevant expertise in C++ and / or C# programming. Good knowledge of other programming languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Matlab) is appreciated.
We are looking for a highly-motivated person, eager to learn, who is not afraid of taking responsibility, while being a team player as well.
Previous experience in (bio)medical software development and/or a degree in biomedical engineering is highly appreciated.
