As a trusted partner for companies, start-ups and universities we bring together close to 3,500 brilliant minds from over 70 nationalities. Imec is headquartered in Leuven, Belgium and also has distributed R&D groups at a number of Flemish universities, in the Netherlands, Taiwan, USA, China, and offices in India and Japan. All of these particular traits make imec to be a top-class employer. To strengthen this position as a leading player in our field, we are looking for those passionate talents that make the difference!
The "WAVES" research group (http://www.waves.intec.ugent.be/) is the expertise center of the Department of Information Technology of Ghent University/IMEC in Belgium for radio channel characterization of current and future wireless networks.
5G networks promise to increase the mobile data volume per geographical area a thousand times over 4G networks. Small cells, massive MIMO (multiple input, multiple output) and millimetre-wave communication technology will be able to supply the huge data rates for next-generation applications.<
For WAVES, important research domains in the context of 5G radio propagation are:
- 3D radio channel modeling based on empirical data obtained with radio channel sounders. Vehicular radio channels are of interest here, including communication with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs),
- multi-link channel models accounting for link correlation and link interference,
- 5G network planning and design accounting for power consumption restrictions,
- impact of beamforming and (massive) MIMO on 5G performance.
We are looking for enthusiastic top candidates to perform research in the above domains in both national and international European projects. Candidates with a Master degree in Electrical engineering and Physics engineering qualify for this research job.
Basic to advanced knowledge of electromagnetic wave theory is required, as well as of statistics for the treatment of empirical data. Knowledge of signal processing techniques is a plus and will be helpful for understanding radio channel parameter estimation.
We offer a pleasant work climate within a young dynamic team and the possibility of obtaining a PhD.
