Fourier ptychography offers many advantages in terms of enlargement of field-of-view, spatial resolution and depth of focus compared to conventional microscopy and tomography systems. Both transmissive and reflective types exist, according to the illumination. Reflective Fourier ptychography offers an exciting option for inspecting surfaces or the shallow area beneath. Research performed by VUB-imec centres on modelling the ptychographic imaging system, ptychographic signal reconstruction algorithms, design of automated inspection algorithms, and coding algorithms to compress the produced imaging data efficiently. This project will allow the candidate to improve on many skills ranging from advanced signal/image processing and modelling, holographic signal processing, cutting-edge optics & photonics, deep learning and efficient compression of holographic signals. The researcher will collaborate with an international team.

The primary research location will be the Electronics and Informatics department of the Vrije Universiteit Brussels and imec, located in Brussels.
This project will run in collaboration with the Korean partners of the consortium: Small Machines, ETRI and INHA University.
