About miDiagnostics

miDiagnostics is developing a new generation of disposable tests that require only drops of blood and allow detection of cells, proteins, nucleic acids, and/or small molecules. Our core technology is a novel silicon-based nanofluidic processor that automatically processes the blood sample without the need of pumps or valves. miDiagnostics’ passion is to remove the need for complex and costly instrumentation, enabling medical decisions to be taken at the point of need or remote areas with a high level of comfort to both patients and caregivers.

The Job

We are looking for a VP of Software Engineering with a strong background in software leadership and architecture, with a preferred emphasis on experience with image processing, computer vision techniques for biomedical imaging-based applications and the domain of point of care healthcare devices. As the VP of Software Engineering, you will be responsible for leading a team of multi-disciplinary individuals who are working on development of novel approaches, new algorithms and optimizing existing algorithms for a cutting edge medical product. You will lead the architectural considerations and decisions on quality of software, scalability and extendibility of the platform, along with its interactions with external partners for data storage and manipulation.  You will be lead the algorithm team’s interactions with the overall miDiagnostics multi-disciplinary team consisting of electronics engineers, optical engineers, biophysicists, fluidic designers, clinical lab personnel and other imaging specialists.


  • Lead the team of software engineers for development of the miDiagnostics software product
  • Lead the definition and ongoing updates to software development roadmap
  • Lead the agile software development process (Scrum)
  • Set sprint goals, run sprint planning, retrospective and daily standups
  • Lead the interactions of the software team with the miDiagnostics software research team
  • With emphasis on documenting approaches, managing planning of research to product translation
  • Lead the architecture of the miDiagnostics software pipeline
  • Define and develop the optimization plan for key algorithmic blocks related to image classification
  • Contribute to optimizing the prototype image processing and computer vision algorithms onto various platforms (CPU / GPU optimization; potential general-purpose / mobile / cloud target platforms)
  • Interface with various external partners for algorithmic API interfaces for hardware, GUI and other software elements
  • Interface with experimental team to contribute to the needs analysis for data collection for training and testing machine learning algorithms
  • Understanding and communication of key algorithmic blocks in the overall data analysis pipeline

Profile and competences


  • PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field with equivalent experience
  • At least 10 years of experience with developing product and research software, with a preferred emphasis on computer vision algorithms in research and product development capacities
  • Extensive experience with software architecture, SDLC, agile software development
  • Knowledge of image processing & computer vision algorithms and techniques, including but not limited to convolutional neural networks, dictionary learning, template matching.
  • Experience with standard imaging processing libraries (e.g. OpenCV), machine learning libraries (e.g. TensorFlow) and GPU-optimization platforms (e.g. CUDA)
  • Experience working with / defining APIs
  • Experience with Python, MATLAB and C/C++


  • PhD/Master’s degree with emphasis on Computer Vision
  • Extensive experience with image processing and computer vision
  • Experience with optimization of CPU and GPU-based algorithms
  • Experience with cloud processing, big data or web technologies
  • Experience with point of care medical devices
  • Experience/knowledge about regulations for biomedical software
  • You have a keen interest in biology and medicine
  • You are structured, precise and care about details. You attach importance to software robustness, appearance and user friendliness. You are very customer-oriented. You are a motivated team player. You are fluent in English and have good communication skills
