“Thin Film Electronics for Next Generation IoT Sensors Applications” by Prasahant Agrawal
Prashant Agrawal received PhD (Electrical Engineering) from KU Leuven (Belgium) in 2015 and MS (Computers Science & Engineering) from Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur. He is currently the Program Manager for Thin Film Electronics at Imec Belgium. Prior to this, he had been Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Imec between 2015-18 during which he managed technical and business development activities, and fund raising for internal ventures. He worked as Senior R&D Engineer in the Hyperspectral Imaging Group at Imec (Belgium) between 2014-2015 and as Technical Staff Member in the HPC Group at IBM Research India between 2006-2009. He has strong technical background in a wide array of domains such as thin-film electronics, hyperspectral image sensors, systems & applications, machine learning, high performance computing, embedded systems and low power VLSI. He is passionate about entrepreneurship and technology commercialization

In 2025, half of the world population will be living in water-stressed areas. Real-time insights in water quality are needed for optimal water management. This session explores the potential of extremely powerful but very small sensor platforms that can be applied in high volume, densely-spaced networks for real-time water monitoring. Detecting heavy-metals, other pollutants or even bacteria is part of our long-term roadmap, and nanometer-sized silicon structures provide the tools for future sensor generations.

Ilja Ocket has been with imec since 1999, where he spent the first part of his career working on millimeter wave antennas, packaging and heterogeneous integration in a range of technologies. He currently leads various R&D initiatives in the areas of millimeter wave radar sensing (79 GHz and 140 GHz), sensor fusion (radar/video), AI/ML techniques for feature extraction, and molecular/cellular electrical sensors and actuators for environmental monitoring and life sciences applications.

Derivative Optical Technologies: Potential of Integrated Photonics Beyond Telecom by Xavier Rottenberg
Optical (on-chip) telecommunication led the development of ever more mature, mainly Si-based, integrated photonic technology platforms. This session introduces a targeted diversion of these platforms to enable wave-based sensing and actuation in (quasi-)optical domain. It demonstrates novel systems for Life-Sciences, Flat optics, Imaging, Spectroscopy, Optical beam forming for LiDAR or THz RaDAR, that redefine the typical trade-offs between form factor, performance and price point.
