Validation of capacitive through-clothing electrocardiography (ECG) and bioimpedance (BIOZ) for medical applications

Meer dan twee weken geleden

Help bring novel through-clothing measurement methods for patient physiological signals from the lab into the hospital.

Imec has developed technology for measuring capacitively the electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiration through bioimpedance (BIOZ) through clothing. This technology and the associated algorithms are continuously being improved and new approaches and applications being explored.

The proposed thesis topic concerns the validation of imec capacitive sensing technology for ECG and BIOZ for medical applications, such as monitoring of hospital patients in collaboration with the hospital. This will involve both preparations of the required hardware setups, and signal acquisition and low-level signal processing in Matlab or Python.

The work also includes evaluation of the signal acquisition using the realized system under real-life medical conditions in  studies. Based on this evaluation, modifications to the system or the electronics can be proposed and implemented, with the final objective to obtain the best possible signal quality under real-life conditions.

Skills required: mixed signal (analog and digital) electronic circuit knowledge, test and measurement skills, experience with signal processing in Matlab and/or Python, some knowledge of embedded microcontroller firmware programming in C, hands-on attitude

Type of project: Internship, Thesis, Combination of internship and thesis

Duration: 6-9 months

Required degree: Master of Engineering Technology, Master of Science, Master of Engineering Science, Master of Bioengineering
