Principal Analog IC Design Engineer RF & mmWave

What you will do

Imec enjoys a world-class reputation in advanced communication and radar and millimeter wave sensing systems. In these fields, the group has a vertical system approach: our expertise ranges from antenna, frontend, baseband to algorithms and systems. Specifically, for IC design, imec’s established reputation has been confirmed every year by our extensive presence in top conferences such as ISSCC, RFIC, ESSCIRC and CICC. As a Principal Researcher you will be:

  • Crafting the strategy for the Analog IC Design team based on market inputs and foreseeable state of the art technologies. 
  • Improving and optimizing existing design methodologies and procedures. 
  • Initiating and contributing to funded and bilateral projects through their definition and execution.
  • Performing analog design from specification to documentation on block and top level according to the imec design flow.
  • Coming up with new ideas for future analog IC’s, going beyond problem solving, question the status quo.
  • Publishing in international journals and contributing to major conferences.
  • Researching and designing of innovative analog, mixed signal, RF and millimeter wave circuits.
  • Driving the bottom-up evolution of analog, mixed signal, RF and millimeter wave designs taking technology scaling into account.
  • Together with the team, bring new ideas, new technical methods based on your solid technical experience.
  • Hiring team members and build a productive research team.
  • Interacting with external partners and new prospects, as part of the technical support.

Who you are

  • Have a PhD degree in the domain of analog and RF IC design and at least 10 years of analog and RF IC design experience.  Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 12 years of analog and RF IC design experience. An equivalent combination of expertise and education will also be considered.
  • Have 10+ years of relevant experience, including research, in the domain of analog, mixed signal, RF, and ideally millimeter wave, IC design. 
  • Have 3+ years of experience leading or managing a team of technical peers into uncharted territory
  • Have 10+ years of design experience and you have designed in CMOS technology (40nm, 28nm).
  • Are familiar with the implementation of wireless communication, radar, sensing systems and circuits.
  • Have expert understanding of solid-state devices, analog/RF circuits, up to transceiver architectures
  • Are experienced with highly-digitally assisted RF/analog systems.
  • Are proficient with Cadence specifically Spectre RF.
  • Can work independently yet in close collaboration with experts from other technical fields.
  • Have excellent reporting skills and are able to present technical results and choices clearly and concisely.
  • Have a history of successful publications, patents or both.
  • Can present your research effectively at conferences, to leadership and in other technical forums. 
  • Have excellent communication skills as you will be required to interface with internal and external customers.
  • Take initiative and work independently, while being part of a team.
  • You are authorized to work in the US.
  • Have experience working in R&D environments with globally diverse teams.
  • You are able to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% of the time.
