R&D Engineer Protective Coatings for Solid-State Battery Electrodes

Imec’s energy storage team is developing all-solid-state Li-ion batteries with high energy density, short charging time, long lifetime and intrinsically safe. In this growing R&D activity, we are currently looking for a development engineer to support the further development of thin protective coatings for solid-state Li-ion batteries. He/she will actively participate in the development of atomic layer deposition (ALD), physical vapor deposition (PVD) and/or chemical vapor deposition (CVD) processes. With these, he/she will elaborate thin protective coatings as interface between electrode materials and solid-state electrolytes, to enable high-voltage solid-state batteries. For this challenging task we are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated person with good technical skills, and preferably experienced in cleanroom work.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Development of new ALD, PVD and/or CVD processes for thin-film protective coatings on planar layers and nano-structured surfaces, in close collaboration with the responsible scientist or project leader
- Physical characterization of thin-film coatings
- Electrical testing of protective coatings
- Regular and thorough reporting to line management and industry partners
You will be full-time working in imec Leuven.
You are a self-motivated engineer, who seizes opportunities and is enthused by new challenges. You have a master’s degree material science or nano-engineering, or equivalent by experience. You have experience with thin-film process equipment (ALD, PVD and/or CVD). Experience with material and/or electrical characterization of thin-films is a plus. You take initiative and work independently, while being part of a team. You can schedule your work according to deadlines and deliverables. You are creative and like to think with the scientists to solve problems. You are result-driven and can meet stringent deadlines with quality output. You are flexible to accept new challenges in the future, and to evolve together with the changing R&D demands of our high-tech environment.
