Intranet of Neurons: A Minimally-invasive and High-capacity Transcranial Telemetry Network for Large-scale Brain-wide Neural Recordings
Brain-computer interfaces (BCIs) establish direct communication between the brain and an external computer-based device. At present, BCIs can only collect information from a limited number of neurons and can thus only control simple motions. The EU-funded IoN project envisions advanced BCIs that support the walking of paralysed patients. To achieve this, researchers will employ high-bandwidth and miniature wireless communication to transfer the neural data recorded from multiple regions across the brain. This improved spatial resolution, alongside the introduction of a new telemetry network, will advance data collection and processing, offering a better BCI for patients with disability.
