Field Application Engineer

What you will do

You will be guiding customers to successfully using imec’s imaging and optical sensing technologies to solve their application problems. At imec a wide range of imaging and sensing technologies are being developed, from spectral cameras to quantum dot, LiDAR and radar sensors.  Our hardware and software are used by companies all around the world. Some in the high TRL level (spectral cameras) and some in the prototype level. Our customers have different applications and testing environment and need to integrate our sensors in different platforms (drone, microscope, endoscope sorting machines, etc.) Hence, a field application engineer should be able to understand the customer requirements and needs correctly and help them with training, implementing our user manuals and API in their applications. Delivering both a user-friendly and empowering experience tailored to each customer is key to make them successful. You will be actively working with engineers in the field of medical, automotive, aerospace, drone, agriculture, and security surveillance markets. Your assistance and training enable them to bring disruptive innovation through new systems and solutions in their field. As a field application engineer your constructive feedback on how customers use our sensors, what are the limitations and future expectations from these technologies will be very useful for imec teams who are involved in developing such technologies and sensors.

In this job, your main activities will be:

  • Organize live demos and provide technical information on imec imaging and sensing technologies to internal and external people.
  • Engage with new leads to understand their need and identify potential solutions.
  • Organize, execute and report on short application feasibility studies.
  • Make technical proposals for customers and guide them through the funnel.
  • Report-out and get feedback from the business and management team.
  • Follow up with customers, the contract administration, and supply-chain team to fluently onboard new customers.
  • Support the customers in technology adoption in view of their specific need.
  • Follow up on the customer’s journey and provide support and guidance as needed.
  • Run small lab and field experiments to test potential solutions to customer problems.
  • Organize and provide hands-on technical training, both on-site and remote (globally).
  • Develop tools and materials to provide information and training to customers: Support site, manuals, instruction videos, sample data, sample scripts, application demonstrators, application one-pagers, technology leaflets, slides, website content, etc.
  • Champion the customer internally by discussing interesting cases with your colleagues, share the customer feedback to the engineering teams, translate customer needs into improvement ideas.
  • Become our field application expert and carry out your expertise to your colleagues to make them further acquainted with the technology and applications thereof.
  • Contribute to selected application research projects with lab and in-field data collection, scripts, hardware setup.

What you have

  • You have a degree in engineering or sciences or equivalent through experience.
  • 3-5 years of similar working experience.
  • You have experience in customer-facing engineering roles.
  • You have a strong interest in professional services, application engineering
  • You have strong technical communication and interpersonal skills, fluent in English.
  • You have a problem-solving mindset with the ability to work independently and in teams.
  • You can work onsite 3 to 5 days per week.
