Metrology Engineer AFM

What will you do

Microscopy (SPM) team. The SPM team is a core facility on the one hand responsible for providing fast and reliable measurements based on SPM concepts (AFM, C-AFM, SSRM, SCM, KPFM etc.) to support the technological development of all imec programs (logic, memory, photovoltaics, III-V, 3D, etc.). On the other hand, the SPM team performs world leading research to cope with future metrology challenges such as the continuous shrinking dimensions, novel materials and new architectures. The SPM team is at present operating different SPM-tools covering high-vacuum AFM based tools, regular AFM-systems as well as tailored versions (developed in collaboration with the manufacturer to meet our requirements).  
As a Metrology Engineer, you will become an expert in AFM and work closely with internal and external customers to understand and address their AFM related metrology needs and deliver results and solutions in response to their requests. On top of that, you will also be involved in the further improvement of existing AFM measurement protocols and the establishments of advanced measurement modes and capabilities to tackle future measurement challenges. For this, you will work in our dedicated Analysis Lab (sample preparation, measurements, etc.), will do the data analysis and interact with the customers, the SPM team and the MCA department.

After an intense on the job training, your primary responsibilities will be to:
  • Perform sample preparation and high-quality AFM measurements in a tight schedule.
  • Thoroughly analyze, interpret and report the obtained measurement data based on the customers input.
  • Interact with internal and external customers in an efficient, user friendly manner.
  • Manage the operation of AFM tools and interact with the manufacturers.
  • Become an AFM expert and make your expertise available to the imec programs and your colleagues.
  • Be involved in and push the AFM research towards new concepts and approaches by designing and performing experiments, stay up-to-date with literature, and analyzing results.

Who you are

  •  You obtained a Bachelor or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Physics, or Electronic Engineering or equal by experience.
  • Given the challenging and innovative environment, you have a “can do” attitude combined with a large drive for high qualitative and quantitative results and are not afraid to take on new challenges.
  • You are customer oriented and can work/communicate well within a team.
  • You can take initiative and work independently.
  • Since you will be working in a highly international environment, fluency in English is essential.
  • Previous experience with SPM tools and/or semiconductor technology is a plus but not required.
