We are seeking an experienced Program Director for Quantum Compute Bilateral Projects to lead our team in developing and advancing quantum computing technology components for a variety of international partners. In this role, you will guide the strategic planning, development, and management of bilateral research initiatives focused on quantum computing components. You will collaborate closely with start-up partners, secure funding, oversee project execution, and uphold the highest standards of research quality and integrity. Additionally, you will build and maintain strong relationships with project partners, ensuring their goals and expectations are well understood. Your leadership will be essential in shaping the future of quantum computing technologies while fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration across imec teams.

What you will do

As the Quantum-Compute Bilateral Projects Program Director, you will:

  • Engage with new customers to understand their needs and define the project scope, timeline, budget, and related parameters.
  • Lead project intake and sizing efforts, establishing timelines, deliverables, milestones, and success criteria.
  • Coordinate with internal expertise centers to confirm technical capabilities, skill sets, and resource availability.
  • Support the business development manager during contract negotiations and contract finalization.
  • Ensure the technical and operational on-time delivery of the high-level plan by guiding project managers and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams—including device, process integration, process development, modeling, TCAD simulations, reliability, and others.
  • Maintain frequent communication with partners, both remotely and in person, to provide progress updates and cultivate long-term, trust-based relationships.
  • Strengthen cross-functional collaboration by engaging effectively with resource and thought leaders across various imec organizations.
  • Inspire, mentor, and manage your team of program managers and research staff, enabling them to reach their full potential.

Who you are

  • You are genuinely passionate about emerging technologies and motivated by their potential to create a positive societal impact.
  • You bring 10+ years of leadership experience in areas such as spin qubits, cryo-CMOS, superconducting technologies, micro-bumps, TSVs, and related domains.
  • Ideally, you hold a PhD in quantum physics, semiconductor devices, materials science, or a closely related field.
  • You combine a strong strategic vision for the future of semiconductor research with deep expertise in quantum computing requirements.
  • You possess excellent leadership abilities and a proven track record of industry-level leadership.
  • Your persuasive communication style, inspiring enthusiasm, and strong drive for results help cultivate a collaborative environment that promotes knowledge sharing, innovation, and customer satisfaction.
