R&D Engineer Electroplating

Supporting R&D activities for imec’s advanced technology programs

Electroplating has been the technology of choice in forming metal interconnects in integrated circuits. Key requirements for future interconnect technology, quantum computing applications and 3D processing are defect-free filling of Cu damascene interconnects, the deposition of superconducting materials and the formation of redistribution layers, microbumps and metal pillars. The aim of this position is to strengthen the R&D activities in electroplating for advanced nano-interconnects, quantum computing and 3D-stacked IC technology.

What you will do

You will be a member of a team responsible for performing research and developing new processes.
You will work in a dynamic multidisciplinary environment in close collaboration with other researchers, hardware engineers, process experts, material and equipment vendors, industrial assignees and colleagues working for imec’s technology programs.

As an Electroplating R&D engineer, you contribute to the R&D activities on the deposition of metals and metal alloys, physico-chemical and electrical characterization, and validation of the obtained results with state-of-the-art equipment.

More specifically, your tasks include:

  • Design, conduct and analyze experiments and experimental results
  • Perform post-plating characterization, interpret and report on the results
  • Perform and coordinate non-standard development work in IMEC’s fab together with fab process engineers and the pilot line
  • Actively contribute to technology transfers, research programs and joint development programs with external partners
  • Interface with integration engineers and imec partner companies
  • Take in questions and requests from customers, and actively follow up
  • Collect information from your peers, summarize and transfer to the partner companies
  • Report about your work to internal and external partners
