What are we building in Málaga?
Imec is building a new semiconductor R&D pilot line in Málaga, home to Spain’s first 300mm cleanroom.
The new facility will complement imec’s existing 300mm advanced CMOS pilot line in Leuven. It will support the development of new 300mm processes, the introduction of new materials, and the validation of promising semiconductor technologies in prototypes that can move closer to real-world applications.
For the people who join, this is more than a new facility. It is an opportunity to help shape a new R&D operation and contribute your expertise from the start.

Why this cleanroom matters?
The next generation of semiconductor technology is moving beyond what is possible with
conventional silicon and CMOS manufacturing. Making computing more power-efficient, bringing optics deeper into computing, and enabling physical AI and next-generation sensing require new materials, devices and integration approaches.
The new pilot line in Málaga will provide a dedicated environment to develop these technologies and validate them in working prototypes and demonstrators. This will help teams understand how they perform in real applications and move them closer to real-world use.
Our cleanroom in Spain/Málaga will help move promising research beyond discovery and towards technologies that can create real-world value.
