1. Pioneering Flexible Full Thin-Film Tandem Solar Cells

PhD - Genk | Just now

Are you passionate about renewable energy and eager to work on the next generation of solar technology?

This research focuses on creating lightweight, flexible, and highly efficient solar cells by combining two advanced thin-film technologies into a single monolithic device:

  • Top cell: cutting-edge perovskite solar cells, to be optimized for efficiency and mechanical durability.
  • Bottom cell: highly efficient flexible Cu(In,Ga)Se (CIGS) solar cells, providing a robust and tunable platform for tandem integration.

The project will begin with optimization of the flexible CIGS bottom cell using an already established high-performance recipe. Once the baseline performance is achieved, parallel efforts will focus on the perovskite top cell, tailoring its properties for compatibility with the CIGS layer and for tandem integration. This dual optimization strategy ensures both layers are fine-tuned to deliver breakthrough device performance.

Your research will contribute to real-world applications such as:

  • Building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV);
  • lightweight, high-efficiency modules for space photovoltaics;
  • solar fuels production, where tandem devices efficiently drive photoelectrochemical reactions
