Development Engineer exploratory device processing

What you will do

Imec is leading the research and development of novel devices and materials that can shape the future of tomorrow’s electronic technologies. In this growing R&D activity, we are currently looking for a Development Engineer to strengthen our device processing activities in our cleanroom lab environment.

As a Development Engineer, you will work at the interface between research and process execution. You will translate new device concepts into experimental process flows, execute and optimize those flows in the lab, and support integration activities for proof-of-concept and prototype devices in the domains of microfluidics, biosensors, and MEMS. You will collaborate closely with R&D engineers, researchers, process assistants, and project leaders to realize innovative devices on aggressive timelines and with high quality. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Translate device and material concepts into experimental process flows in collaboration with seasoned R&D engineers and researchers.
  • Develop and optimize process steps in the cleanroom environment, including thin film deposition, patterning, etching, bonding, and layer characterization.
  • Integrate process steps into full device fabrication flows and monitor critical parameters for yield and performance.
  • Work hands-on in the lab to execute processing runs, ensuring accuracy, repeatability, and proper documentation.
  • Support troubleshooting activities and propose improvements to enhance process robustness and device functionality.
  • Report process progress, results, and issues to project leaders, R&D engineers or researchers in a clear and structured way.
  • Assist in training and supporting process assistants for specific techniques and equipment operations.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • You have a Master’s degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Nanotechnology, or a related field.
  • You have hands-on experience in cleanroom processing, including one or more of the following: thin film deposition, photolithography, etching, bonding, or microfabrication.
  • You have a good understanding of microfabrication principles and enjoy translating concepts into experimental process flows.
  • You are organized, result-driven, and able to plan and execute tasks according to project schedules.
  • You are a strong team player, working closely with both engineers and assistants, while taking initiative to solve problems independently.
  • You are flexible and motivated to work on multidisciplinary research topics.
  • Good communication and reporting skills in English are essential.
