As an experienced EHS Manager, you will play a key role in ensuring environmental compliance and a safe, healthy working environment for our cleanroom operations in Málaga. In-depth knowledge of Spanish EHS legislation is essential to succeed in this role.

About imec and the project 

Imec is the world’s leading independent R&D center for nanoelectronics and digital technology, driving innovation in sectors like health, energy, agritech, and mobility. We’re expanding with a new chip technology pilot line in Malaga, complementing our advanced CMOS line in Leuven.  

We're hiring an experienced EHS Manager with strong knowledge of Spanish legislation and a proven track record in leading EHS activities for our cleanroom operations in Malaga. 

About your role 

You will be based in Malaga and you will follow up the EHS design review- and the permitting process for the chip technology pilot line in Malaga. During the construction of the new pilot line you will be imec’s local EHS representative. Once the pilot line is started up, you will be responsible for the EHS management. This includes:  

Environment: 

  • Ensure legal compliance (permits, inspections, reporting).   
  • Organize and maintain the environmental management system.   
  • Conduct EHS risk assessments and screen operational changes/projects for environmental impact. 
  • Organize internal audits and self-inspections.   
  • Act as spokesperson during governmental environmental audits.   
  • Represent the site in the local EHS council.   

Health   

  • Provide health surveillance for imec employees.   
  • Deliver EHS training.   
  • Support incident/accident investigations with health implications.   

Safety 

  • Conduct EHS risk assessments and screen operational changes/projects for safety risks.   
  • Develop emergency response plans and train the local emergency response team.   
  • Manage contractor safety and site security.  
  • Act as business partner for Malaga operations and corporate EHS.

You will travel frequently to our Belgium headquarters for training and collaborating within our corporate Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) department. Through onsite training you will get to learn the basic semiconductor clean room activities, their associated EHS risks and how to manage them.

About you 

  • You have a proven track record of at least 15 years of experience in EHS management in Spain. 
  • You have an in-depth knowledge of Spanish EHS legislation.  
  • You can regularly travel to Belgium for training purpose. 
  • You are a Master of Science in Engineering with a strong chemical background.  
  • You have experience with the Spanish permitting process and governmental authority. 
  • You know how to set up and maintain a environmental management system. 
  • Proficiency in Spanish is required, along with a good command of English. 
  • You are a team player with a passion for EHS. 
  • You have a hands-on mentality with strong problem-solving skills and a proactive mindset.
