The imec research group mict from Ghent University is looking for a full stack developer to work on project-based research and development of smart interactive products and digital applications.

Imec mict is an interdisciplinary research group at the department of Communication Sciences and the department of Industrial Systems Engineering and Product Design at Ghent University and part of the digital research institute imec.

The research group for Media Innovation and Communication Technologies is based in De Krook in Ghent, the epicenter of digital media innovation in Flanders. The architectural hotspot is a bustling meeting place between science, digital technology, entrepreneurship, media, culture and arts.

What you will do

Within imec-UGent you will have the opportunity to join a dynamic team of researchers, where you will be part of the Industrial Design team and the research group mict (Media, Innovation & Communication Technologies). Within this team you are responsible for the implementation of various innovative research projects. This includes designing/co-creating/prototyping new interactive products and applications.
Are you passionate about research with new state-of-the-art technologies and does a collaboration with academic research through hands-on development attracts you? Then you might be the person we are looking for!

  • You will work with new digital technologies (IoT, VR, AR, Big Data) that we integrate in product designs and interface design.
  • You will work on various research projects with an applied finality within the domain of smart products. Within these projects you are the person who can translate product ideas and concepts into workable prototypes and proof-of-concepts.
  • You will receive a varied range of tasks in a stimulating, creative working and learning environment.

Who you are

- Bachelor NMCT, Devine, DAE or Applied Informatics or Master in Engineering Electronics-ICT or Master in Computer Science.

- Experience with the following is important:

  • Python
  • Web (HTML, JAVA(SCRIPT), CSS, SQL)

- Experience with the following is a plus:

  • Linux, Embedded (i.e. Raspberry Pi & Arduino)
  • Adobe CC (XD, Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign)
  • Unity (AR/VR applications)

-  You are able to translate a design brief into concrete technical specifications.

- You are not afraid to use your creativity and to design and build prototypes during workshops.

- You have knowledge of and interest in new web technologies that can be linked to IoT, AR/VR.

- You are communicative, and you are a real team player!

- You have good writing and presentation skills in both Dutch and English.

- You have a critical attitude and are always looking for challenges.

- You are flexible and like to take initiative!
