Memory/Storage Subsystem R&D Engineer 

What you will do

Compute System Architecture (CSA) is a center of excellence at imec for hardware-software-technology co-design for future compute systems. CSA has presence in 4 centers of IMEC, in Belgium, UK, Germany and USA. This position is offered at Leuven, Belgium. 

As a Memory/Storage Subsystem R&D Engineer in CSA, you will lead efforts in developing and customizing memory and/or storage subsystem models (functional and/or performance) for complex SoCs/systems for various application domains, ensuring alignment with industry-standard and future-looking hardware designs. You will participate in platform integration, validation, and performance analysis efforts for memory and/or storage subsystems in a full system, collaborate with senior researchers in the team to validate ideas and innovations in the domain of memory and/or storage subsystems with appropriate modelling and analysis. 

This role combines research, engineering, hardware modelling, performance analysis, and you will work with colleagues and other stakeholders with a strong background in one or more of these areas. The role involves working with open-source and/or in-house performance and power modelling tools, with a strong insight into the intended hardware design, so that you can ensure that the development of models meet the needs of current and future hardware. You will get a chance to work closely with the memory groups in IMEC towards innovative research, development and analysis of evolutionary and exploratory memory technologies.

Who you are

  • You have a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Computer Engineering or a related field. 
  • You have a strong background in memory and/or storage subsystem architecture or design, with relevant academic/industry experience. 
  • You are a strong SW programmer/developer in C++ and Python, with effective debugging/analysis/scripting capabilities. 
  • You have effective communication skills in English allowing you to perform well in our multicultural team. 
  • You are open-minded, you seek and embrace differences, and you encourage curiosity and accept challenges. 
  • You have a constructive attitude, able to convince others and always prepared to listen and learn from others in our team. 
  • (optional) You have 2+ years of industry experience in architecture and/or design, preferably in the domain of memory and/or storage subsystems. 
  • (optional) You have working familiarity with memory and/or storage subsystem simulators like Ramulator, DRAMsys, MQSim, or similar. 
  • (optional) You have a hands-on experience in design and RTL-level development or emulation related to memory and/or storage subsystems.
