We are looking for a microfluidic integration engineer with excellent technical skills in the field of mechanical design, microfluidic building blocks and systems, and micro-fabrication methods. You will work on a variety of different projects in which customized sensor chip integration is demanded and will combine both technical and project management tasks.

What you will do 

  • Design and implement mechanical, electrical and microfluidic components for the integration of sensor chips.
  • Follow a structured approach to derive, monitor and document requirements of individual functional components as well as at system-level. Interact w/ all stakeholders to agree on a commonly supported decision.
  • Select, test and validate manufacturing routes for customized components at external suppliers and in-house lab facilities. Execute manufacturing steps for internal prototyping.
  • Innovate at the level of chip integration methods that strengthens Imec’s sensor portfolio with different integration requirements from various application levels. Pitch new proposals both internally and externally. 
  • Analyse, interpret and report experimental data to the project and hierarchical team.
  • Work closely with an interdisciplinary team of electronic design engineers and life science researchers.

Who you are

You have a master degree or PhD in mechanical engineering, materials science, applied physics or other equivalent discipline with relevant experience in microfluidic product and/or prototyping design and manufacturing. Knowledge of generic electronic packaging and integration solutions is a plus.

  • Mastering mechanical CAD software for microfluidic and mechanical integration applications.
  • You are familiar with micro-fabrication manufacturing methods, microfluidic products and existing device solutions.
  • You have hands-on experience and strong motivation to work with laboratory equipment and practical device testing.
  • You have strong analytical skills and can perform data processing using analytical or computational tools.
  • You have excellent communication and reporting skills to summarize your results, indicating both successful and failing parts; showing a fair self-insight.
  • You have experience working in a research environment with an interdisciplinary team and opposing opinions.
  • You are a team player.
  • You are fluent in English and have excellent communication skills.
