About imec Qatar

Imec Qatar is a new regional office where we drive our mission of pioneering innovative semiconductor solutions that lay the foundation for a smarter, greener, and truly AI-driven future. Specializing in advanced design tools for emerging technologies like silicon photonics and 3D integrated circuits, imec Qatar is at the forefront of chip development. And we're driving the future with intelligent solutions to  optimize infrastructure, and deep-tech innovations targeting applications for a sustainable society.

This is more than just a new office - it's the start of an exciting journey. With the launch of imec Qatar, you have the unique opportunity to join us from day one and help shape the future of semiconductor innovation in the region. Be part of the team from the very beginning!

What you will do

Join our PDK (Process Design Kit) team at the forefront of next-generation IC design platforms, enabling 3D integration, silicon photonics, and heterogeneous systems. We offer both junior and senior roles - including hands-on PDK Engineers and Technical Leadership roles - to drive the development, qualification, and delivery of PDKs that empower advanced IC technologies.

Depending on your experience and role, you will:

  • Lead or contribute to the development, validation, and release of PDKs for 3D IC, photonics, and heterogeneous integration platforms.
  • Define PDK architecture, content strategy, and release roadmaps, ensuring alignment with technology and design requirements.
  • Supervise and mentor engineering teams, or collaborate closely with process, device, and design experts to capture and implement technology needs.
  • Implement and validate technology files, parameterized cells (PCells), design rules, and device models.
  • Ensure seamless integration of PDKs into commercial EDA tools (such as Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor, Lumerical, etc.).
  • Oversee or contribute to version control, release management, and change-log tracking, ensuring compliance with industry standards and foundry design rules.
  • Provide support to design teams and offer high-level assistance for complex design and PDK integration issues.
  • Drive or participate in continuous improvements in automation, documentation, and user experience.
  • Validate PDK content through regression testing, reference designs, and example libraries.

You will be part of imec, and that means…

You will join a world-class research center in nanotechnology at our brand-new office in Doha (Qatar). You will participate in building a team that shapes technology that will determine the society of tomorrow. Imec is an inclusive employer with an open, multicultural, and informal working environment. We provide ample room for initiative and professional development.

Who you are

  • You hold a master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Photonics, Physics, or a related field.
  • You have hands-on experience with EDA tools (e.g., Cadence Virtuoso, Synopsys, Mentor, Lumerical).
  • You possess programming/scripting skills (Python, SKILL, Tcl, C/C++ preferred).
  • You are familiar with IC design flows (analog, digital, photonic, or mixed signal).
  • Knowledge of semiconductor device physics and fabrication is a plus.
  • You demonstrate strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.
  • For technical a lead role: you have experience in supervising and mentoring engineers, defining technical strategies, and interfacing with cross-functional teams.
