Researcher for nanofluidics and electrokinetics

What you will do

We are looking for a researcher to investigate electric-field-driven transport in fluids, interfaces, particles and biomolecules.
The role comprises identifying and solving complex scientific and engineering questions in transport physics to create predictive models and experimentally validate mechanisms that accelerate technology development and reduce experimental risks.

The researcher will drive and support projects in micro- and nanoscale systems, collaborating with experimental researchers, simulation specialists, device engineers and microfabrication teams. This role offers opportunities to mentor students and contribute to publications, patents, and research proposals.

Key responsibilities:

  • Build physics-based models of electrokinetic and interfacial systems.
  • Develop experimental strategies to validate predictions and quantify limitations.
  • Support projects involving micro- and nanoscale transport, particularly those involving electric actuation.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its headquarters in Leuven, Belgium. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. Through imec.academy, 'our corporate university', we actively invest in your development to further your technical and personal growth.

We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate salary with many fringe benefits.

Who you are

  • PhD in engineering, physics, applied sciences, or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of transport phenomena, electrokinetics, electrochemistry, fluid dynamics, or interfacial science.
  • Experience with continuum, numerical, or multiphysics modelling of micro- or nanoscale systems.
  • Experience in experimental physics, physical-chemistry, or related areas.
  • Ability to combine analytical, numerical, and experimental approaches.
  • Strong logical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work without supervision and collaborate in multidisciplinary research and development teams.
