student project: Design of a bio-inspired sensing system for high-channel counter implantable neural

Research & development - Eindhoven | More than two weeks ago

This thesis aims to explore the enhancement of a high-channel-count neural implant system, drawing inspiration from biological systems such as the retina, to achieve optimized performance and integration.

Student project: Design of a bio-inspired sensing system for high-channel counter implantable neural interfaces

What you will do

For neural implant applications, the resource of neural implants is very limited. Therefore, we would like to focus on the exploration of the system design for a high-channel-count neural implant system which includes analog-to-digital conversion, on-chip data compression and data serialization.

In this project, we are going to study the biological mechanisms, for example how the retina works and perform the data compression based on the study in order to increase the energy and hardware efficiency of neural implants.

What we do for you

As a world-class research institute, we are the center of excellence in nano-electronics design for Internet of Things and Healthcare applications. In this project, you will work on a cutting-edge research project, under the supervision of the world-renown researchers from diverse background.

Who you are

  • Solid background in signal processing, and is familiar with biomedical data analysis with python/Matlab
  • Basic understanding of mixed-signal integrated circuits, especially data converters, is a plus
  • Strong interest in the cross-section of biology and electrical engineering, e.g., neuromorphic engineering and neural interfaces
  • Good written and verbal English skills
