What you will do

  • Guide the development of new ultrasound and optomechanical systems from novel transducer concepts towards (photo)acoustic imaging applications.
  • Characterize and benchmark ultrasound transducers acoustically, electrically, and mechanically.
  • Provide support across multiple projects using your expertise in acoustic imaging.
  • Maintain a high standard of literature knowledge.
  • Collaborate with specialists from our cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to the creation of a long-term vision and strategy for the group.

Who you are

  • You hold a PhD degree in (Bio)Physics, Electrical or Biomedical Engineering.
  • You have several years of theoretical and practical experience in Ultrasound Imaging and acoustic transducer technology.
  • You have proven experience with ultrasound systems (e.g. Verasonics), acoustic characterization and application-oriented ultrasound imaging.
  • You are proficient in the use of MATLAB or Python, FEM software (e.g. COMSOL) and specialized ultrasound simulation tools (e.g. k-wave or Field-II).
  • Experience with MEMS design and/or microfabrication knowledge are an asset.
  • Experience with in-vivo experiments is an asset.
  • Any project management experience is an asset.
  • The imec environment requires a good team player with good communication and reporting skills. An excellent knowledge of English is mandatory.
