Understanding the effect of electric field the interaction of molecules and surfaces

Master projects/internships - Leuven | Just now

Exploring electric field in life sciences beyond electrophoresis

We are offering an internship opportunity for a student to contribute to a research project in separation sciences at the microfluidics team at imec. The project focuses on investigating the specific and non-specific binding of biomolecules to different surfaces under the influence of electric fields. The student will assist in collecting preliminary data to support the development of novel sensing and separation strategies.

During the internship, the student will gain hands-on experience with SPR instrumentation and learn how to design and execute experiments involving biomolecular interactions. They will be trained in surface chemistry preparation, data acquisition and analysis, and the interpretation of binding kinetics under varying electrical conditions. This position offers the opportunity to develop skills in biosensing, electrostatics, and surface science, while contributing to high-impact research in a multidisciplinary environment.

Type of Project: Internship

Master's degree: Master of Engineering Technology; Master of Science; Master of Engineering Science; Master of Bioengineering

Duration: 6 months

For more information or application, please contact the supervising scientist Camila Dalben Madeira Campos (camila.campos@imec.be).
