Imec presents breakthrough CMOS-MEA chip for multimodal cell interfacing
This month, at the ISSCC 2018 conference in San Francisco, imec presented its new micro-electrode array (MEA) chip. Unlike most of today’s MEAs, this chip supports high-throughput multi-modal measurements. Imec’s CMOS-MEA packs 16,384 active electrodes with signal processing, filtering and analog-to-digital conversion on-chip, resulting in a very complete and compact system with easy interfacing. The MEA also includes 1,024 low-noise readout channels that can be connected to any of these electrodes. The chip enables a record-number of modalities on a single chip, i.e. intracellular and extracellular recording, voltage- and current-controlled simulation, impedance monitoring and spectroscopy functionalities. In this way, it can significantly improve the throughput and versatility of cell-based assays.
The best way forward is together: open call for imec.icon projects
In February, we launched our first imec.icon call of 2018. The imec.icon research program is our successful formula for demand-driven, cooperative research. Do you have an innovative idea in ICT, the health sector, the manufacturing industry or other domains? Imec.icon can help you bring together the ideal consortium of partners! Over a period of two years, a multi-disciplinary research team of scientists, industry partners and/or social-profit organizations join forces to develop and fine-tune digital solutions that are ready to be launched.
The imec.icon program has already resulted in more than 100 completed projects in very diverse application domains. Check out our portfolio or click here to find out how you can apply! The open call closes on 14 March 2018 (12 noon).
Imec hits the road with the Techpedition!
In February we have been busy finalizing the Techpedition, a travelling pop-up expo filled to the brim with demonstrations of imec technology. From invisible solar cells, digital stress coaches and robots as co-workers to smart labels in packaging. The Techpedition will hit the road as of next month and will show the Flemish public how imec’s technology can simplify and improve daily life in the near future.
In the next few months, the Techpedition will travel through Flanders, opening its doors in 13 different cities. If you happen to be in Belgium in the near future, do check out our full calender (in Dutch). In March, you will find us in Ghent (8-11 March) and Ostend (23-25 March). There is no entrance fee and no need to make a reservation; just pop in if you are around!
