Fabrication of 2.5D Microstructures for MicroLED Metrology and Holography Applications

Master projects/internships - Brussel | More than two weeks ago

Discover the forefront of microLED metrology and holography applications through the fabrication of advanced 2.5D microstructures in this compelling topic.

Description
The demand for 2.5D and 3D micro- and nano-structures is significant across various applications, including holography, meta lens, and microLED technologies, particularly in the fields of display and metrology. This project aims to develop 2.5D and 3D patterns achievable through laser direct writing techniques, such as those facilitated by the µMLA system from Heidelberg Instruments. Examples of patterns include pyramids, zone plates, and holographic plates. This project is part of a collaborative effort to showcase an advanced Fourier Ptychographic Microscope (FPM) system for 3D tomographic imaging. The FPM system employs innovative algorithms to reconstruct 3D objects with sub-micron resolution and a wide field of view, offering an alternative to traditional optical microscopes. Experiments will be conducted at imec fab in Leuven, VUB OpticsLab, or MicroLab, or a combination thereof.

Responsibilities:

  • Sample pattern modeling and design
    • Pyramid, Holography, and other 3D structures
  • Sample fabrication, including
    • Operating the Direct Laser writing (DLW) lithography patterning process
    • Post patterning process
  • Measurement experiment (AFM, profilometer, microscopes)
  • Successful work can be followed by journal publications

Type of Project: Thesis (bachelor or master)

Master's degree: Master of Engineering Technology; Master of Science; Master of Engineering Science; Master of Bioengineering. Also open for Bachelor students.
