High-speed analog integrated circuit design engineer (Japan)

Research & development - Hokkaido | More than two weeks ago

Deliver analog front-end integrated circuit designs using scaled-CMOS targeting Optical IO transceivers for AI/ML applications.

High-speed analog integrated circuit design engineer (Japan)

What you will do

We are looking for a motivated and dynamic analog IC designer, who will focus on the design of circuits such as modulator drivers, transimpedance amplifiers, continuous-time linear equalizers, variable gain amplifiers etc. You will collaborate closely with the photonic device teams to understand how to co-optimize your designs to achieve best-in-class energy efficiency (pJ/bit), low-noise operation (in case of the receiver electronics), density (expressed as e.g. shoreline density Tb/s/mm) etc. For the designs you will use a cutting-edge scaled-CMOS process, with some adaptations in the back-end of line to enable the use of advanced hybrid bonding integration approaches.  More in particular you will:

  • Design analog IC designs such modulator drivers, transimpedance amplifiers, continuous-time linear equalizers, variable gain amplifiers etc. according to specifications and functionality established in collaboration with system teams.
  • Co-optimize the front-end electronic IC designs in close and continuous collaboration with the photonic device (modulator and detector) team.
  • Align with assembly teams to understand the integration approach, provide feedback from the electronic IC design point-of-view and plan the design accordingly.
  • Engage with mask layout teams with the end-goal of delivering tape-out ready test chips.
  • Setup testability plans and analyze test data.
  • Communicate your insights to internal cross-functional teams, technology developers and external partners.

What we do for you

We offer you the opportunity to join one of the world’s premier research centers in nanotechnology at its location in Hokkaido, Japan. With your talent, passion and expertise, you’ll become part of a team that makes the impossible possible. Together, we shape the technology that will determine the society of tomorrow.

We are committed to being an inclusive employer and proud of our open, multicultural, and informal working environment with ample possibilities to take initiative and show responsibility. We commit to supporting and guiding you in this process; not only with words but also with tangible actions. We are aware that your valuable contribution makes imec a top player in its field. Your energy and commitment are therefore appreciated by means of a market appropriate rewards package.

Who you are

  • You have a PhD or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or related field with at least 2 years of experience in high-speed analog IC design in scaled CMOS processes.
  • You have a track record of silicon-proven IC designs.
  • You are familiar with industry-standard design tools such as Cadence, and have mastered the analog IC design flow starting from schematic design, mask layout (in collaboration with the mask layout team), parasitic extraction and mask layout verification.
  • You have the ability to work according to agreed timelines and manage time efficiently according to the project schedules.
  • You possess strong reporting and presentation skills.
  • You thrive in a multidisciplinary and international team.
  • You focus on quality.
  • You communicate fluently in English.
