PDK Engineer 

In this role, you will develop, validate, and maintain Process Design Kits (PDKs) that accurately represent imec silicon photonic technologies in EDA environments. You will collaborate closely with integration and design expert teams to ensure seamless integration of exciting new technology into design workflows. As such, this role requires a combination of technical expertise and excellent communication skills.  

What you will do

  • Develop and maintain PDKs: technology files, layer definitions, design rules, DRC/LVS decks, parameterized cells (PCells), and PDK handbook. 
  • Ensure PDK compatibility with major EDA platforms (Cadence, Synopsys, Mentor, etc.). 
  • Automate PDK deployment and version control using Git. 
  • Work with process engineers to translate technology into design rules and models. 
  • Provide support and training to design teams on PDK usage.  
  • Incorporate best practices and optimize PDK for usability and scalability. 
  • Contribute to release documentation, version control, and continuous improvement of PDK-delivery flows.

Who you are

We are looking for strong team players who are results-driven and eager to continuously improve. You should have: 

  • A PhD or master’s degree in photonics, physics, electrical engineering or related field with understanding of integrated photonics and semiconductor technologies. 
  • Proficiency in EDA tools like Cadence Virtuoso, IPKISS, Synopsys, etc. 
  • Familiarity with IPKISS (a plus).  
  • Strong scripting skills, especially using Python. 
  • Experience with version control software Git. 
  • Experience with DRC/LVS rule decks. 
  • Familiarity with IC design flow. 
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
