Student project: Ingestible Device Development

Innovate at the intersection of engineering, biology, and medicine.

What you will do

• Support the redesign of a small scale sampling mechanism used in an ingestible capsule
• Explore and evaluate alternative design concepts
• Build and test prototypes using available lab facilities
• Conduct simple bench top experiments to assess performance
• Document findings and contribute to the next design iteration
• All work will be guided by senior engineers, and you will have access to internal resources and prior project materials.

What we do for you

• You will contribute to the development of next-generation ingestible medical devices designed to advance gastrointestinal health monitoring. Working on real engineering challenges, you will help improve the reliability and performance of innovative capsule technologies that have the potential to transform healthcare.
• Join a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists with expertise in mechanical design, materials science, and biomedical technology, who will guide and support your work.
• Gain hands-on experience in product development by designing, prototyping, testing, and validating novel engineering solutions using state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.
• Collaborate with the broader OnePlanet and imec community, expanding your technical knowledge while contributing to the next generation of medical device innovation. 

Who you are

• You are a master’s student in biochemistry, medical technology, or a related field.
• You are creative and capable of independently designing and executing laboratory experiments.
• You are available for an internship of approximately 6 months.
• You have a motivated, hands-on attitude and are eager to explore new scientific and technological fields.
• You are a team player who enjoys working in a multidisciplinary environment.
• You are legally entitled to do an internship in the Netherlands.
