Student project: Mechatronic system design and development

What you will do

You will contribute to the advancement of a research project, focused on creating solutions for a sustainable future in health, environment, agriculture or food. Your work will involve the design, integration, and testing of mechanical and electronic components within experimental setups.  This may include evaluating sensor technologies, developing control systems, or building functional prototypes. Your role will include:

  • Background study: Investigate the problem area, conducting a thorough study to identify key challenges and define requirements for potential solutions.
  • Conceptual design: Explore creative mechatronic design concepts. Evaluate and select the most promising ideas for further development.
  • Prototyping and Testing solutions: Build and test functional prototypes using tools such as 3D printers, microcontrollers, and sensor modules. Iterate designs based on experimental results and performance data.
  • Report writing and documentation: Documentation of your research, design process and testing outcomes in a thesis or report.

Who you are

We are looking for motivated students who bring enthusiasm and curiosity to our team. You are an ideal candidate if you:

  • Are a BSc or MSc student (HBO or WO) enrolled at a Dutch educational institution, studying mechatronics, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, industrial design, creative technology or a related field.
  • Have a solid understanding of mechatronic design.
  • Possess hands-on experience with prototyping, including working with sensors, actuators, and microcontrollers.
  • You are looking for an internship of at least 6 months.
  • Have a proactive and outreaching mindset are eager to learn.
  • Thrive in a collaborative team environment and are comfortable working across disciplines.
