Our new site in Heilbronn, Germany, is a strategic innovation node in imec’s European expansion. It aims to foster a vibrant ecosystem of startups, corporates, and research institutions focused on deep tech innovation, e.g. for an open chiplet ecosystem. To support this mission, we are looking for a Technical Editor / Writer for imec Heilbronn, to play a pivotal role in ensuring the clarity, accuracy, and usability of technical documentation across our research and development projects.

What you will do

Within the imec organization, the team at imec Germany is aiming to drive innovative semiconductor R&D capabilities across various business sectors and bridge between cutting-edge research and industrialization. As a Technical Editor / Writer at imec Germany, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team and will be responsible for creating and maintaining high-quality documentation that supports imec Germany’s research, development, and innovation activities.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining clear, accurate, and user-friendly documentation (e.g., specifications, technical reports, manuals, API references, white papers, etc.).
  • Collaborating closely with researchers, engineers, and project & ecosystem managers to gather and structure complex technical information.
  • Support and drive consensus towards implementation and standardization efforts, with multiple internal and external partners.
  • Translating complex technical concepts into clear, accessible content for diverse audiences (developers, partners, internal & external stakeholders).
  • Editing and reviewing content for consistency, clarity, and compliance with imec’s standards and applicable regulations.
  • Managing documentation workflows, including version control, localization, and publication.
  • Creating and maintaining templates, style guides, and visual assets (diagrams, charts, screenshots) to ensure consistency across deliverables.
  • Supporting internal and external communication efforts with well-crafted technical content.
  • Exploring and implementing improvements in documentation processes, including automation and AI-assisted tools.

You will work in an international environment, interfacing with imec teams across Europe and beyond, contributing to the visibility and impact of imec’s innovations.

Who you are

You are a detail-oriented communicator with a strong affinity for technology and a passion for precision. You combine technical understanding with excellent writing skills and enjoy working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. Your subject matter expertise in automotive compute and system architectures will enable you to support and pro-actively drive consensus towards pre-compliance and standardization efforts, with multiple internal and external partners.

Required qualifications:

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experienced in automotive semiconductors with a background in compute architectures (preferably, chiplet-based)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in technical writing or editing, preferably in a high-tech or research setting.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English, German is a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, accessible content.
  • Beside MS Office, familiarity with documentation tools such as Git or Markdown.
  • Experience with content management systems and structured authoring.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple documentation projects simultaneously.
  • Team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with editorial workflows and multilingual documentation.
  • Familiarity with agile development environments.
  • Basic coding or scripting skills (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Visual Studio) for documentation automation.
