Gent, April 11, 2017 – Epilog, a spin-off of imec and Ghent university, announced the introduction of their first CE-approved product, Epilog PreOp. Epilog PreOp provides automated EEG analysis to localize epileptic brain regions in patients undergoing preoperative evaluation for epilepsy surgery. PreOp significantly reduces the time investment for neurologists to analyse EEG recordings from epilepsy patients and provides additional localizing information to guide surgery.
Processing and interpreting long-term EEG data recorded in patients that are considered for epilepsy surgery can be very time-consuming and labor-intensive. Furthermore, purely visual EEG analysis does not allow the to locate the epileptic discharges within the brain.
Based on more than 15 years of R&D experience, Epilog has developed PreOp, a cloud-based platform that automatically analyses EEG data. The analysis also includes EEG source localization – a technique that estimates the origin of epileptic discharges within the brain in 3D. Epilog’s new platform has been validated in a multi-center study, and has recently obtained CE approval.
“Based on a large patient database, we validated our spike detection and EEG source localization techniques,” explains Gregor Strobbe, CEO and founder at Epilog. “The results obtained with Epilog PreOp show that our methods achieve a higher sensitivity and specificity to localize the epileptic focus compared to conventional methods using structural MRI, SPECT and PET (in lang uitscrhijven).”
Epilog PreOp automates the analysis of preoperative EEG data and provides the results in a concise report with clear 3D visualization for optimal preoperative evaluation. The platform can be accessed from anywhere in the world at any time. There are no hardware demands and the interface is simple and user-friendly.
