Imec is undergoing a technology and process transformation, including the modernization of its data landscape. As part of this journey, we are building a unified data platform using Azure and SAP Datasphere to support our corporate service departments (Finance, Procurement, HR, Warehouse, Legal, Project & portfolio Management). 

What you will do

You will be part of the Corporate Services Team within our ICT organization. This team’s focus is supporting the applications and data needs for our central functions. As a Data Engineer, you will: 

  • Collaborate with dedicated functional analysts to understand the source data structures and business requirements for each department. 
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data models and pipelines on the Azure data platform, integrating data from SAP and other corporate systems like Clarity, Service now. 
  • Prepare and transform SAP data using SAP Datasphere, ensuring high data quality and consistency. 
  • Work closely with BI specialists to enable effective Power BI reporting and analytics. 
  • Document data models, data flows, and integration patterns to build internal knowledge and support future development. 
  • Contribute to the technical architecture and participate in test cycles, validation, and troubleshooting. 
  • Drive continuous improvement in data engineering practices and support the evolution of imec’s data landscape. 
  • Build up expertise in imec-specific data domains and contribute to the knowledge base for corporate services.

Who you are / what do we expect 

  • You obtained at least a Master’s degree in ICT, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. 
  • You have at least 5 years of experience in data engineering, preferably in a corporate environment. You have solid, hands-on experience with the modern data stack (in particular: Lakehouse, Delta Lake, Spark, Polars, Airflow, Databricks, Docker, k8s, Terraform) 
  • Experience with Azure is a strong plus 
  • You can apply dimensional modeling techniques. Expertise in Kimball is a strong plus. 
  • Experience with SAP Datasphere or SAP data integration is a strong plus. 
  • You are proficient in SQL and Python,  
  • You are comfortable working in a complex, multi-system environment and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Experience working in the context of a federated operating model (e.g. Data Mesh) is a strong plus. 
  • You have a strong analytical mindset and attention to detail. 
  • You are a clear communicator who enjoys sharing knowledge and working with both technical and non-technical colleagues. 
  • You are fluent in English; knowledge of Dutch is a definite plus.
