Senior Wet Process Development Engineer

Research & development - Leuven | More than two weeks ago

Drive robust wet process development, quality excellence, and technology transfer for advanced semiconductor technologies

Senior Wet Process Development Engineer

What you will do

As a Senior Wet Process Development Engineer, you play a key role in developing, maturing, and transferring wet process solutions for imec’s advanced semiconductor technology programs and bilateral customer projects. You focus on process robustness, quality, and scalability, ensuring that innovative R&D results can be translated into stable and efficient processes.

You act as a technical bridge between wet process R&D, integration engineering, and fab engineering, supporting continuous improvement across logic, memory, and 3D integration technologies.

In this senior engineering role, you help ensure that imec’s wet process innovations are robust, scalable, and transferable, enabling both cutting-edge research and industrial collaboration by taking ownership in the following domains:

Process Robustness & Technology Maturation

  • Collaborate closely with wet process engineers, project managers, integration engineers, and fab engineering teams to improve process and module maturity.
  • Support wet process development for logic, memory, and 3D integration projects, with a strong focus on in-line performance, defectivity control, and process stability.
  • Drive the transition from exploratory R&D toward mature, industry-relevant wet processes, based on process fundamentals and industrial best-known methods (BKM).

Quality, SPC & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and contribute to quality-driven initiatives that enhance process robustness, efficiency, and repeatability.
  • Promote and support:
    • Design of Experiments (DOE) for solid process window definition,
    • Statistical Process Control (SPC) strategies that balance control and efficiency,
    • Integration of Fault Detection and Classification (FDC) for critical wet modules.
  • Actively foster a culture of continuous improvement within wet process development teams.

Technology Development, Transfer & Customer Support

  • Represent the wet process R&D team in internal and customer-facing technical meetings.
  • Support technology development coordination, including DOE definition and execution.
  • Contribute to Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to strengthen process reliability.
  • Document process learnings and support technology transfer, knowledge sharing, and customer workshops.
  • Provide development support for bilateral customers and contribute to internal platform development.
