Met us at SLAS2026? Learn more on what we discussed

Excited to see more of our technology and capabilities for life science tool innovation? This page covers the topics we discussed at the conference.

At SLAS2026, we showcased our technology blocks and platforms at the booth and shared our vision on how chip technology can transform the lab-in-the-loop protein engineering workflow, in an expert talk.

More information on these topics is listed below:

As shown at our booth

  • Our micro-valve and DNA-synthesis chips are microfluidic devices with microstructures such as pumps, heaters, and valves that assist in DNA synthesis in a highly parallel manner, enabling extreme throughput. Learn more about our microfluidic capabilities and the power of precision fluidics.
  • Using the same microfluidic platform, imec designed and fabricated a PCR microfluidic chip, to showcase how precision fluidics can be used to execute PCR steps on chip.
  • The programmable droplet processor integrates driving electronics with fluidics to steer millions of droplets at pixel level. Depending on your application, these droplets can contain cells or DNA payloads which need to be merged or steered to specific structures on the chip. It’s one of the 3 building blocks described in this article on integrated sample preparation.
  • On-chip lens-free imaging enables microscopy on chip and can for example be used as part of an integrated cell sorter system.
  • A microfluidic platform to measure and sort out cells can use photonic elements to check morphology and cell markers, and microheaters to create a bubble-jet flow for gentle sorting of the cells. Imec integrated these components in its cell sorter chip. Another way to sort out the cells is via ultrasound waves for which imec developed a PMUT array chip.
  • Together with CSEM, we are developing a smart-lid well plate with integrated multi-parameter sensors. If you are interested, please contact us via the link below.

Imec develops technology blocks and platforms which can be used by partners to bring innovation to their products. Custom developments are accelerated through the availability of these technologies. An overview of our focus areas:

  • Photonics
  • Electrodes
  • Fluidics
  • MEMS and acoustic transducers
  • Wafer-scale surface chemistry
  • 3D integration
  • Simulation, characterization, and testing
  • ASIC design

One of our unique capabilities is the post-processing of extra functional layers (such as fluidics and photonics) on top of CMOS, into true monolithic systems. Read our white paper on this topic.

In our advanced 200mm and 300mm cleanroom and through IC-Link we can also manufacture your chips from lab, to fab, to commercial scale.
