Compute technology centers

To keep up with the demands of current and future computing applications, imec not only intensifies device and system scaling but also explores new paths.

For decades, innovation in compute technology was mostly driven by the needs of devices such as servers, desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones. Of course, their demand for higher performance within a smaller footprint and at lower energy consumption will continue. And imec’s researchers will keep on pushing Moore’s law to accommodate them.

At the same time, new applications are making new demands. For AI systems on the edge, a leap in energy efficiency is needed to make split-second decisions on a tiny power budget. And to answer some of the biggest questions of the universe, we need to go beyond CMOS into the world of qubits.
